Has travelling abroad lost the charm it once had?
Faced with the obstacles of new rules and regulations, the twinkling seas of European coasts have become an old memory for many Brits.
The anticipation of the unknown no longer applies to the destination, but to the taxes, restrictions and queues that currently make up air travel! These may come as a surprise to many, especially with the new Entry/Exit System (EES) not only causing delays but making passengers miss their flights altogether!
Not to worry though! Staying home doesn’t have to mean staying home: easily plan a holiday within the UK - without the worries and research of red tape and regulations, the only essentials are booking accommodation and finding a way to get there.
Travelling inside the UK offers a world of possibilities for those who find going abroad too stressful; and no worries about things like currency exchange or learning a new language.
Travelling as a family? The journey is less taxing for adults and children alike! A trip with two toddlers or a new-born is a lot easier than you previously thought, especially if you have a car: hop in at any time, save on the sitter and take the family dog! You’re spoilt for choice now with pet friendly accommodation throughout the UK.
As for entertainment, there’s an endless array of activities in all corners of the UK; many holiday parks offer archery, swimming pools and even wall climbing (just to name a few). We are all a little guilty of staring at our phones for too long, so find and challenge yourself to a new activity.
Spend a couple days in a countryside retreat where you can wander into nearby woods for a picnic and then spend your evening in a hot tub - or maybe curl up by a wood-burning stove with a hot chocolate and board games in winter.
With just the right amount of buzz, a staycation can still be the peace and quiet retreat that allows you to truly appreciate everyone’s company - whether it’s with family, friends, a partner, or even them all! Opting for self-catering accommodation like a holiday lodge, static caravan or a holiday cottage allows for that flexibility.
More than all these wonderful benefits, you are also helping the environment! By not travelling by plane, you are reducing your carbon footprint.
Visiting historic sites and quaint villages & towns also helps to preserve cultural heritage, and thankfully there’s an endless supply of these underappreciated magical getaways to choose from… all of which would support smaller economies and individuals who often don’t see the tourism they deserve. More Brits should holiday closer to home for this exact reason: with places like Sherwood Forest dwindling in face of urbanisation, don’t miss out on the magic before it’s gone, and your staycation could help to keep it there!
